Our History

Sublyme Divers were formed in the autumn of 2001 by 7 former members of a local club who were, to put it mildly, sick and tired of club politics, over priced crappy diving, constant petty bickering, lying, dishonesty and a total lack of diving ambitions within the majority membership.

The 7 of us, all highly qualified and experienced divers and instructors wanted to return to the good old days of going diving and enjoying our sport without the hindrance of bitching and recrimination getting in the way. We wanted to dive good dives when and how we wanted with the people we wanted to dive with, from a boat without daft restriction, and at a normal price that did not involve a club 'profit' being made from our every move to pay for damage caused by neglect to club equipment by those who didn't care. Furthermore we didn't want to spend 90% of our dives taking in trainees on grotty dives and being made to pay through the nose for it. Not that we have any problems with training other divers, just not all the time please.

Corrupt club politics by those in high places with ideas purely to serve their own interests finally 'broke the camels back' and as one we left. To quote our former tormentor-in-chief "look what you have now, no club, no diving, no boat and no friends". Quite a statement, and thankfully like most of the things he said, total bullshit.

Sublyme Divers are all good friends within a great little club, we have superb diving on our doorstep, our own boat and a good selection of local charter boats to do it from. What we do not have are the squabbles, financial hassles, tedium and politics of our former club. Long may it remain that way.

Sublyme Diving Club is all about enjoying our sport of scuba diving. We aim to dive what we want when we want but with the minimum of aggravation and the maximum of pleasure.

Obviously safety is paramount . We abide by the accepted sports diving rules and guidelines to govern what diving we do and when. We observe all the safety at sea guidelines as published by the MCA and other bodies concerned with safety issues. Most importantly we use our combined experience and common sense to make sure that our diving is as safe as it can reasonably be without ruining the experience.

We dive what ever we feel like doing for any given day given the conditions and experience or desires of the members wishing to dive, flexability being the operative word when trying to plan anything. Our diving has to be fun and so no pressure is brought to bare on anyone to do dives they do not wish to do. The whole day should be fun and so we do our level best to make it so. The boat is to be enjoyed by all, before, during and after a dive. The diving experience is not just about being under water, it is about having a good time getting there and back, from doorstep to doorstep. With Sublyme Divers it happens that way because we all want it that way.

Diving is an expensive sport but through common ownership of club equipment and sharing of all costs, we aim to keep it down to an absolute minimum. We don't make a 'club profit' but pay as we go for what we spend. There is no kitty, no fund raising, no unfair charging for dives and incidentals. We all chip in and keep it funded as and when we need to, and what's more, it works.

Most importantly of all, gone are the bad old days and we all once again enjoy our diving as it should be.
