You can clean lace yourself (click here for guidelines) however we do not recommend it unless your are prepared to take the risk of damaging your lace. It is time consuming, difficult and fraught with danger for your lace. Instead the Honiton Lace Shop offers a complete cleaning and restoration package for antique lace. It is essential for the long life and protection of lace that it be stored in a clean condition. We will wash and remove stains, repair damage and present your lace in a way that will show it to its best. Obviously some stains and damage are not removable or repairable, but in nearly all cases we find that a vast improvement can be made to old and worn looking lace.

Below are basic guide prices as to our charges, however we will always give a firm quote before any work is undertaken. If you do intend sending us your lace for cleaning or repair, please wrap it well in a stout box to protect it while in transit, we also recommend that you send it recorded for safety and with a list of all pieces in the consignment. Once we have seen it we will contact you with our recommendation and a quote for all work to be undertaken and return shipping.

Approximate Cleaning Costs

If you are sending us items to clean and restore from outside the UK, please mark the outside of the consignment very clearly with the wording that the items are "for temporary importation only while cleaning and restoration work is undertaken". This will hopefully avoid the need to pay importation duty and handling charges to get the items into the UK
